Description
Costume jacket- black satin trimmed with row of small white buttons down front; satin cups are at each shoulder; long sleeves have starched, full white cotton cuffs with stiff tattered lace; broad white square collar is heavily starched; a belt of black satin has a white plastic buckle. h: 31" w:19" shoulders
History
;Dutch costume 1996.11.173 was worn by 3rd ward alderman Martin Oudemool at Tulip Time parades and pageants during the 1930s and 1940s. It is a burgemeester costume. The costume was discovered in a vault in the basement of City Hall during renovations in 1996.

Martin was born in Holland, MI on 1-3-1878 to Aart Arthur Oudemool and Maartje Martha Ossenberg. Martin was director of the Peoples State Bank, a member of the Third Reformed Church and father of two daughters.
