Description
Off-white wool baseball cap; connected black initials "H & I" in diamond on front of cap; underside of bill is dark green; inside headband is brown leather; seams sectioning the cap are stabilized with red braid on inside; "A. G. Spalding Bros." trademark label inside back; stained.
History
In 1996, local historian Randy Vande Water contacted Rev. George Vander Hill and asked if he would consider donating old baseball uniforms to the Holland Museum. Rev. Vander Hill's father, John "Shiner" Vander Hill played for the Holland Independents baseball team in the early part of the 20th century. This cap and other uniform pieces also donated. were worn by "Shiner" Vander Hill were the first local sports uniforms in the Holland Museum's collection.
