Description
Girl's costume bodice from a Dutch costume in the style of those worn in the town of Volendam, in the Province of North Holland, Netherlands.  This bodice is a black, sateen, short-sleeved top with a square neck; a red and blue braid trims neck; short sleeves with elastic cuffs; 5 sets of snaps close the front; back has fitted darts
History
The Volendam costume from donation 1997.27 was worn by the donor in numerous Tulip Time children's parades during the 1930s. The donor, Betty Jean Venhuizen Weber was born in Holland, MI on 10-19-1924 to William and Maria Venhuizen. Betty lived in Holland while growing up (1930 US Census) and attended Hope College.

Betty married Lawrence R. Weber in Holland, MI on 6-2-1950. They lived in Holland at 284 West 36th Street (1962 and 1975 city directories). She would later work as a teacher in the Holland Public School system. Betty passed away in Holland, MI in 2012.
