Description
Wooden model of a two story store/dwelling, painted white with black shutters and door frames; ground floor front room has counters, with shelves of dry goods on right and shelves of tiny canned goods on left; on front window is painted "Nick Van Haitsma, Gen'. Mdse"; front porch roof overhang shelters benches, vegetables, brooms and a lady clerk in a long full skirt; back of front room is a smaller room with an outside door leading to a stairway; this room houses more grocery store supplies and a miniature scale for weighing "100# " bags of farm feed; lights hang from the ceiling; upstairs are 3 rooms and a back porch which has a pump and laundry equipment; one room is a homey living room with a black and silver coal/wood burning stove and upholstered furniture; kitchen is fully equipped with a sink and pump, ice box, cupboards and a table set for the next meal, plus a Bible; a Tiffany lamp hangs over the table; a straight kerosene lamp is on one wall; doors open from the living room and kitchen to a bedroom made narrower by the stairway; there is a bed, cushioned stool, dresser, chair, sewing machine and a metal pitcher and bowl set; three lights are on the walls; wallpaper covers each room upstairs; an outside stairway leads up to the balcony/laundry room; lifted roof sections are joined at the center peak so all living quarters can be seen; bedroom has a separate roof which is angled up; downstairs, the entire canned food set of shelves opens outward; back of this is another wall on hinges that reveals back room of store.
