Description
Lady's handmade bonnet of black yarn; an inner layer shapes the bonnet with an outer more intricate decorative set of knitted stitches; at top of crown and around face are rows of short fringes; a flounce is added at back and sides; black silk bows are at front, right side and back; 3" wide black silk ribbons form under the chin ties; breaks noted in the wool yarn on lower back.
History
Bonnet worn by donor's grandmother. Mrs,. Sweinje Lankheet, thlrd wife of Hermanus Lankheet (one of the first Holland settlers to arrive with Van Raalte in 1847). Land cleared by Hermanus in Overisel is still being farmed by family today.
