Description
Oliver typewriter, No. 9., olive green with cream-colored lettering at the top.  Cream colored keys with black letters.
History
This typewriter was acquired from Margaret Schurman Klokkert, daughter of George Schurman, longtime treasurer of the Dutch Tea Rusk Company. Accession records use the words “in office” in describing the typewriter and provide the address of the DT Rusk Co. More than likely, this indicates that the typewriter was used in the offices of the Dutch Tea Rusk Company.
The Hekman Rusk Company and the Dutch Tea Rusk Company were both located at 418 W. 18th in Holland, MI. As early as 1938, the Dutch Tea Rusk Company appears in the city directory, listing Jelle Hekman as company president. By 1947, the name had changed to Hekman Rusk Company. Jelle still served as president, and later as chairman of the board, Edgar Hekman served as vice-president (later as president) and Henry Hekman served as treasurer.
