Description
a) 32" x 40"; black wool twill double-breasted jacket with wide lapels and three sets of gold metal navy insignia buttons on each side; long sleeves each with two gold braid stripes and an applied oak leaf (medical emblem) at cuffs; sleeves are lined with white satin, body has black nylon twill lining; deep pocket each side; right breast pocket has a sewn in black satin patch saying "This label identifies a garment made and sold under authority of the U.S. Navy, Regulation U.S. Navy Uniform"; #11 083 is on a white tag; right sleeve lining armhole is partially unsewed.b) 42"x 32"; black wool twill pants; hip pockets and side pockets are lined with off white cotton twill; metal zipper; 7 belt loops; watch pocket; garment is in good condition other than shininess on seat.
History
Uniform belonged to Holland resident Lieutenant Richard Henry Schaftenaar (1915-1983).He served in the Navy as a medical officer attached to the Marine Corps in the South Pacific during WW!! 1943-1946.
