Description
hand sewn heavy silk faille coat; pale lavender (yellowed) at neck and sleeves, shading to darker lavender on lower half, with brocade and satin leaf decorations; body and sleeves are lined with white, patterned satin brocade; front at neckline are finished with a 2" border; no shoulder seams; sleeves are large lined squares with hand openings at top; lavender stay-stitches at back of neck; two inside silver hooks link jacket; neck tap in Japanese; a tiny burn hole noted on left front panel.
History
The donors, Ronald and Beti (Buursma) Thompson lived in Japan in the late 1960s. Beti had lived in Holland, MI prior to moving to Japan with Ronald. By 1974 the couple had returned to Holland, MI (Holland Sentinel, 6-3-1974).
