Description
Badge, consisting of name tag, ribbon and medallion. 

The name tage is at the top, with a pin on the back for attaching to clothing.  It is rectangular in shape with a silver-colored border.  Within the border is the name "J.J. Piers" and "339th" in black ink.

The ribbon is blue on the left side and white on the right.  In gold lettering is the following "Tenth Biennial Polar Bear Reunion Grand Rapids, Mich June 14-15-16th 1940".

The medallion is metal, silver-colored, and has the words "Polar Bear" above the image of a Polar Bear.
History
Items from 2000.52 belonged to John J. Piers, veteran of World War One, Polar Bear and former resident of the Holland, MI area.
John was born in Graafschap, MI on 8-15-1892 to Jan and Fanny Piers. John grew up in the Fillmore and laketown areas of Allegan County. He married Tilda Bomers in Holland, MI in 1920. They moved to Grand Rapids soon after marriage, and settled in Jenison, MI.
