Description
Costume necklace, 31" x 15" x .25". Jacket of embroidered, changeable red and black taffeta with black velvet flower designs; neck trimmed with black sheer ruching;
two gold chains with a gold 1.125" round center floral medallion are pinned on to neckline; long sleeves finished with self-ruffle, velvet band and an inner lace cuff 4.25" deep; hook and eye front closure with coordinating color threads on each side for easier attachment; 14.5" peplum below waist finishes jacket; V-shaped hem; dress shields pinned in armholes are soiled and stained.
History
The Frisian costume 2000.68.1a-g was made for Lena Tiesinga Curtis. She wore it during Tulip Time events from 1969 to 1979.
Lena lived in Holland, MI at 170 College Ave (1924, 1952 and 1974 city directories) with her family. She married her husband, Stanley Curtis, in Holland on 7-22-1918. She was born in Jamestown, Ottawa County, MI on 10-16-1892 and passed away in Holland on 6-27-1988.
