Description
a) 18" x 13" x .03125"; cap with fine white fabric crown; a broad band and ruffle of eyelet has a border of finer eyelet; a few brown stains.b) 8.5" x 8.25" x .125"; under cap of yellowed white pique edged partly by a broad hem and partly by lace around face; stained long string ties.c) 4" x 7.625" x 4.625"; metal oorijzer with brass rectangle at each end; smudges on metal ends; worn under Dutch cap with rectangles exposed.d) 21" x 14" x .0625"; long-sleeved bodice of striped yellow, black, white, and gray cotton fabric; banded neck; gathered at cuff and edged with lace; closes in front with a black string tie and four gray buttons (one missing at tip); padded shoulder inserts.e) 32" x 12.5" x .0625"; coarse black fabric skirt, fully gathered, with an 8" hem; ties at waist with black ribbons.f) 25" x 12" x .25"; full underskirt made up of three layers of soft sheer cotton; outer layer is trimmed with lace and is 110" around.g) 29" x 17.25" x .0625"; coarse black fabric apron matching skirt with 2" waistband; ties in back with black velvet ties.Zeeland costume.
History
Objects in accession 2001.21 belonged to Holland, MI residents John J. Zych (1907-2001), his wife Madalene Edding Zych (1905-1990) and their daughter Elizabeth “Betty” Zych Carsello (1926-1963).

The Zych’s lived at 31 West 1st Street (Holland, MI) from 1936 through 1947. They later lived at 256 West 23rd Street in Holland, MI.

John worked for the Holland Hitch Company (1940-1945) and the Holland Racine Shoe Company (1947-1958). Madalene worked briefly for Crampton Manufacturing.

Betty operated a dance studio in Holland, Betty Jeane’s School of Dance.

John and Madalene are buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
