Description
a) 20.5" x 17" x .0625"; simple black cotton jacket with short sleeves trimmed with a velvet cuff; front closes with eight hooks and eyes (lowest hook missing); underarm stains.b) 16.5" x 14" x .03125"; mustard-colored cotton bib; left shoulder closes with snaps; narrow ties close bottom piece.c) 13.5" x 60" x .25"; large square colorful print scarf, folded many times at center and secured there, making a triangle.d) 84" x 2.5" x .125"; long sash or belt made of two different prints, one red paisley to match skirt, other a paler blue, red and tan print; a safety pin is attached at one end.e) 25.5" x 10" x .125"; colorful red cotton paisley print skirt with red, yellow, and blue satin ribbons sewn horizontally; two snap closure.f)14" x 11" x .5"; fitted cotton underpants with five hook closure in back; sheer cotton ruffles fluff costume; very soiled.
History
Objects in accession 2001.21 belonged to Holland, MI residents John J. Zych (1907-2001), his wife Madalene Edding Zych (1905-1990) and their daughter Elizabeth “Betty” Zych Carsello (1926-1963).

The Zych’s lived at 31 West 1st Street (Holland, MI) from 1936 through 1947. They later lived at 256 West 23rd Street in Holland, MI.

John worked for the Holland Hitch Company (1940-1945) and the Holland Racine Shoe Company (1947-1958). Madalene worked briefly for Crampton Manufacturing.

Betty operated a dance studio in Holland, Betty Jeane’s School of Dance.

John and Madalene are buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
