Description
Silver medal with red ribbon. Large medal has four figures with rifles. Three smaller medals on ribbon: "St. Joseph Valley Rifle and Pistol Assn. 1957", "Association", "Sharpshooter Class 2nd.".
History
This commemorative medal was earned by Vernon E. Ayerye, 1913-2001, Vernon graduated from Holland High School in 1935 and worked for the York Band Instrument Co. in Grand Rapids, Dunn Manufacturing in Holland, Holland Precision Parts, Jesieks Marina, and owned and operated a Texaco service station. He also worked with Western Machine Tool Works, Baker Furniture and captained the yacht "Caravelle". He was a member of the Holland American Legion Band for more than 40 years, the Holland Coast Guard Auxiliary, Michigan United Conservation Club, Tulip City Rod and Gun Club and was past president of the St. Joseph Rifle and Pistol Association.
