Figurine of a horse and rider, 4" x 3 1/4" x 2". The fabric horse is covered in black and white glass beads, The rider is dressed in a headpiece and covered with beads of red, blue and white.History
This figurine belonged to Holland, MI resident Nellie Lam, daughter of Johannes and Gertrude Lam. It was acquired by Nellie at some point during her career as a missionary in New Mexico.Nellie was born on 11-19-1900 in the Netherlands. She came to the United States in 1903 with her parents, brother David and sisters Henrietta and Jeanette. The family lived in Holland, MI at 34 East 18th Street (1908 and 1915 city directories) and 118 East 15th Street (1921 and 1931 city directories).
In 1966 Nellie retired from teaching after 44 years. She had spent 39 of those years working as a missionary in New Mexico.
Nellie passed away on 10-3-1991 in Holland, MI.
