Description
Dark, navy blue, government issue pea coat; double-breasted; with 1-1/8" diameter black buttons with impression of anchor on them; slash pockets on each side in front; one pocket has a 3/4" diameter, copper button with an anchor and the words "Coast Guard" on it.  A white label inside breast pocket with the words "U.S. Coast Guard" between two anchors with "Name" and "Rate" below; "James L. Hoeksema" is stamped in ink on line that says "Name"; no size is indicated on coat.
History
Uniform worn by James L. Hoeksema 1942-1945. He was a lifelong Holland resident from 1907-2000, married to Muriel Hoedeman and is buried in Pilgrim Home cemetery.
