White composite base with a brown, wooden pedastel on top of which is mounted a gold-colored figure of a baseball player, bat in hand. Gold-colored metal plaque on front reads "Holland Recreational Department Champion 1975 Rich Smith".History
This object belonged to Mayor Richard Smith. He served Holland from 1979-1983.Born in 1923, Richard W. Smith worked in Holland, MI at General Electric for 30 years. Prior to serving as Holland's mayor, he was a member of the Holland City Council for 10 years.
Richard lived with his wife Harriet at 252 East 24th Street in Holland.
He died Monday, February 11, 2008, at Select Specialties Hospital in Muskegon. He was buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
