“The Tulip Time Festival is pleased to announce the 2011 Tulip Time Festival Poster Artist, Beth Charles and her piece “Drama Queens.”

Born and raised in Michigan, Beth Charles and her family have been residents of Holland since 1996. She is a 1987 cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan, having earned her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with concentrations in painting, drawing and illustration. Beth’s favored media is acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas, which allows for the painting to continue over the edge and around the sides, adding dimension and a surprise to the viewer. Her subject matter ranges from floral to abstract with a focus on realism. Beth currently owns her own business, Beth Charles Art, located at 14 W. 8th St. (above Lake Effect Gallery) where she is a featured artist.

“Drama Queens” is the first artwork chosen through the Art in Bloom Poster Competition, which is sponsored by Lighthouse Group. This newly formed selection process is a collaboration between the Tulip Time Festival and the Holland Area Arts Council. Nearly 160 pieces of art were submitted in the hopes of being chosen for this year’s festival poster. Judges narrowed the selection down to the Top 20. From the Top 20 the Tulip Time Festival Poster Committee chose one piece to be honored with the Official Tulip Time Festival Poster title.”
