Description
Drawing titled "Main Street" which is 8th Street in Holland, MI. The drawing is showing business on the north side of 8th Street looking west towards River. Drawn by area resident and artist Mae Van Ark. The business shown are Meyer Music, Lievense Insurance, The Raintree, and The Plant Kingdom. The Tower Clock Building is also visible.
History
The artist, Mae Naber married Myron "Mike" Van Ark in Holland, Mi in 1955. From 1958 through 1962, Mae attended the Oxbow in Saugatuck, where she learned from other artists. She later took art classes at Hope in painting and print making. Mae helped establish the Art's Council where she later taught water color classes for adults, the disabled and kids. Mae always did her own framing and painted from memory and photo.
