Article from the February 7, 2014 Holland Sentinel.

“HOLLAND, MI – The winner of the 2014 Tulip Time Festival Poster contest has been announced and artist Karin Nelson’s work “Resilience” has taken the top spot.

The artwork of Nelson, 37, of Wyoming, will be featured on posters, prints and other festival merchandise beginning today, Feb. 7, at the Tulip Time office and website.

Nelson explained her inspiration for her work: "I wanted to show tulips in an abstract portrayal of strength, stateliness and dignity. These brave flowers are representational of the strength and resilience of the human spirit."

Nelson's honor was announced Thursday at the First Bloom: Tulip Time Preview reception in Holland.

Three local art and design experts formed the panel that helped to choose the winning piece: Chris Cook of Fairly Painless Advertising; Heidi Kraus, Hope College’s assistant professor of Art History/Studio Art; and Andrew Baldus, the creative design manager of Haworth, Inc.”
