The girl riding on the sled is Henrietta Bartels Hoeksema (1912-1986), mother of donor Vern Hoeksema. The teenage girl pulling the sled is Henrietta's older sister Johanna Bartels Jekel (1907-2002). The boy is unidentified.This photo was taken on the Bartels family farm on the north side of Holland, MI in 1921.
Henrietta and Johanna are the children of John Bartels and Clara Troost. Henrietta married Louis Hoeksema in North Holland, MI on 10-24-1935. They are buried in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Holland, MI.
