History
Charles Drew (1890-1962) and Jeanette Schaap Drew (1900-1996) are buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Charles, a.k.a. Cubby, served as principal of Holland High from 1915-1919. He was a coach as well. His 1919 Holland High basketball team won the state championship. He was also an instructor at Hope College. Dr. William C. "Willis" Kools (1894-1978) served Holland as a physician throughout the 1940s and 1950s. He lived at 194 West 11th Street in Holland, MI with his wife Jo Boven Kools. The Kools' are in Pilgrim Home as well. Helene P. Karsten (1898-1972) and her husband Harold Karsten (1896-1976) moved to Holland, MI from Illinois in 1928.Harold became employed by the Board of Public Works. They lived in Holland at 210 West 11th Street. They were members of Hope Church and the Century Club. Helene was a member of the Hope College music faculty, she also taught piano and gave many recitals. They had two sons, harold, Jr. and David. Helene and harold are buried in Pilgrim Home.
