History
J. Heeringa's grocery store was located in East Saugatuck on 136th and Columbia. It was owned and operated by Jacob Heeringa. Jacob was born on 6-11-1840 in the Netherlands. He came to the US ca. 1862, immediately entering the Civil War.
Jacob married Ida Ellen (1842-1915). They lived in Allegan County, MI (1880 and 1900 US Census). Jacob died on 2-17-1925. He was buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery beside Ida.
