Description
Black and white photograph showing Herman Van Ark in WWI uniform standing outdoors.  A white wooden wall is visible behind him, as well as a wooden sidewalk under his feet.
History
Holland resident (uncle to the donor) Herman Van Ark was born in the Netherlands in 1890. He emigrated to the US in 1901.
Herman worked for the City of Holland Street Department and a furniture factory. While serving in WW1, Herman was attacked by the enemy with gas. He also injured his leg, possibly in battle. Herman died in 1973.
