Description
Black and white photograph of the winner of a horse race at the Ottawa County Fair in 1963. The cape on the horse reads "Smitty's Beverage Johnny Fifer Pac". Bill Vande Water is to the very right in the photo. There is an advertisement for Russ' Drive-In Restaurant in the background. This is possibly the winner of the $1000 Smitty's Beverage Pace. There was a total of $16,000 in purses given out during the three nights of harness racing at the 1963 Ottawa County Fair. The Wednesday night races of 1963 were rained out and moved to Thursday night.
