Description
Unopened pack of cigarettes from the 1952 presidential election between Dwight Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson.  This pack is white with red letters on the front that spell "STEVENSON for PRESIDENT".  A black and white photo of Stevenson appears in the center, in front of a dark blue background covered in white stars.
History
Adlai Stevenson (1900-1965) was a member of the Democratic Party and served in numerous positions in the federal government during the 1930s and 1940s, including the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), Federal Alcohol Administration, Department of the Navy, and the State Department. In 1945, he served on the committee that created the United Nations, and he was a member of the initial U.S. delegations to the UN. He received the Democratic Party's nomination for president in the 1952 and 1956 elections.

The donor, Bob Dykstra. purchased this pack of cigarettes on a trip to Washington, DC in 1953, where he witnessed President Eisenhower's inauguration.
Bob Dykstra is a life-long Holland, MI resident, retired from Parke-Davis. Bob is a long-time supporter of the Holland Museum and Holland Historical Society.
