History
The Holland Camp of Gideons began ca. 1938. Their primary group objective has always centered around the distribution of the Bible to area hotels, hospital, schools, etc.

The following list of early members of the Holland Camp of Gideons was compiled by searching through the Gideon archives in donation 2019.38.

Henry Becksfort (1887-1951), husband of Johanna, they lived at 67 West 18th in Holland. Henry worked as treasurer for the City of Holland.

Fred Beeuwkes (1880-1955), husband of Anna. They lived at 112 East 9th St in Holland. Fred worked at the James A Brouwer Co.

Richard Elhart (1896-1967), husband of Linnea, they lived at 279 West 16th Street in Holland. Richard worked at the Holland Furnace Co.

Theodore Hoeksema (1903-1997), son of Jacob and Effie Hoeksema, husband of Christine. Theodore and Christine lived in Holland at 128 East 32nd Street.He worked for Geo. Mooi Roofing.

John Knoll (1879-1952), husband of Wilhelmina, lived at 20 East 15th and worked for the Home Furnace Co.

James Slager (1892-1962), husband of Elizabeth, they lived at 19 East 14th Street in Holland. James was in the wholesale grocery business.

Andrew Steketee (1879-1970), husband of Helena, they lived at 84 West 14th Street in Holland, Andrew worked at A. Steketee & Sons.

Benjamin L. Van Lente (1895-1963), son of Bert Van Lente (1867-1958) and Elizabeth Nienhuis (1869-1926), husband of Florence Anys. For 34 years, Ben worked in Holland as an insurance agent with State Farm.

Gilbert Van Wynen (1895-1977), husband of Jeanette, they lived at 87 East 23rd Street in Holland. Gilbert worked as the director of Youth for Christ.

Other early members included Herman Bos, DJ De Pree, Ren Muller; Peter Notier, Chris Reidsma, Chester Weener and Henry Ver Meer.
