History
The Georgian Bay Transit Line was chartered in 1912 by Robert Davis. The SS North America was built in 1913 and the SS South America was built in 1914. In 1939 the SS Alabama joined the fleet. The ships took passengers on a cruise of the Great Lakes that typically lasted 8 days. The company located their winter docks and warehouse in Holland at the foot of 16th street from 1924-1967. Edmund Beauregard (1910-1989) was chief steward of the SS South America. His wife Abbie Mulcahy Beauregard (1916-2005) was the donor of this collection.
