Death certificate for Silas Sills.History
Silas Sills came to Holland, MI on June 7, 1873 (R. Vande Water, 6-19-2011 Holland Sentinel). He worked for the City Hotel as a driver, transporting guests and luggage between the hotel and train depot. It is said that at the time, Silas was the only black resident in Holland, MI (Vande Water).The 1900 US Census shows Silas boarding with Jennie Vander Kolk.
Silas passed away in 1907. He was buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery and does not appear to have a headstone.
