This Commodore's jacket belonged to Jacob "Jack" Smith, lifelong Holland, MI resident.
Jack was born in Holland, MI on 1-16-1925 and graduated from Holland High School. He received his degree in pharmacy from Ferris State College.
Jack served in the US Navy during WWII...as a Pharmacist Mate 2nd Class. In 1950, Jack purchased Wade Drug on 13th and Maple from Larry Wade. Along with his wife, Helen Jean Smith, they operated Wade Drug Co. for 40 years.
Jack also served on Holland City Council, was Past President of Holland Rotary Club, and Past Commodore of Macatawa Bay Yacht Club (1982-1986).
Jack and Helen met while both were serving in the US Navy and were married in 1946 by a Navy Chaplin on board the USS Saginaw Bay in the Hunters Point Navy Ship Yard. They were married for 69 years.
