Description
White greeting card with a print of De Zwaan on the front.  The name "DE ZWAAN" appears in black beneath the drawing.  The name of the artist, Peter Kolean, appears on the right.
History
Peter Johannes Kolean (1907-1989) was born on April 17. 1907 in Holland, MI., oldest son of John Kolean and Johanna Arensman Kolean.

From 1930-1932, Peter studied the chemistry of pigments with Andrew Hyma at De Pree Chemical in Holland. Peter then attended the Taylor Art School in Saugatuck, MI from 1932-1936, Lawrence Tech in 1943, the University of Detroit in 1944 and Wayne State University in 1945.

From 1938 to 1942 Peter worked as the Art Director at the Netherlands Museum (aka Holland Museum) in Holland, MI, where he created murals and assisted with exhibits. His work at the Netherlands Museum even earned him praise from Queen Juliana of the Netherlands.

Some of Peter's Holland area commissions included Dutch murals at the Warm Friend Hotel (1940).

Peter became a well-known artist of water colors and oils, living in Detroit and New York City. By 1952 he was an art instructor at the Peter Kolean Galleries and Studios in Gloucester, MA and Delray Beach, FL.

He died in April of 1988 in Delray Beach, Florida, leaving behind a widow Mellie Jo (Galloway) Kolean. He was previously married to Alice Plasman. He had no children
