History
Brandt FamilyLeendert Brandt was born in the Netherlands on 11-8-1863. He married Alice Hoeksema in Holland, MI on 3-18-1887. Alice was born on 6-17-1862. The couple would divorce on 1-26-1912. Leendert passed away in Holland, MI on 7-26-1948. Alice passed away on 7-28-1937.
There were four children in the Brandt family: 1. Lena Brandt was born in Holland, MI on 10-6-1887. Lena married Cornelius Plakke on 11-25-1908. She passed away in Holland, MI on 8-4-1989; 2. Jennie, born in Holland, MI on 12-25-1890 and passed away in Holland, MI on 5-7-1910 at the young age of 20 years; 3. Dena was born in Holland, MI on 10-28-1894 and passed away in Holland, MI on 11-18-1945. She married Albert G. Van Dyke in 1916; and, 4. Bert was born in 1898 and passed away in 1987.
Leendert's parents were Dinginis (1836-1931) and Elena (1834-1917) Brandt. Leendert had four siblings: 1. Maria (1861-1941), married Hendrik Terpstra; Adrian (1865-1946), married Jan Boeve; Cornelius (1870-1955), married Tonia Prins; and, Marinus (1872-1961), married Alice Boeve.
The following information comes from Marinus' obituary, the Holland Sentinel, 8-28-1961, page 7: Marinus Brandt was born in Overisel, MI. He lived in Holland, MI with his wife Alice for the last 67 years of his life. They lived at 265 Lincoln Ave. Marinus worked as an assistant fire chief for the Holland Fire Dept. for 45 years. His son Richard Brandt was fire chief for Holland. Both Marinus and Alice were members of the 6th Reformed Church in Holland.
