Two-page letter written in 2004 from George Zuverink to Holland, MI resident Bob Dykstra.
 
History
George Zuverink, Jr. was born in Holland, MI on August 20, 1924 to George Zuverink, Sr. (1887-1969) and Jennie Wassenaar (1893-1985).
The family consisted of the parents and 8 children: Bernice Dokter; Anne Norman; Alyce Maatman; Ben Zuverink; Ken Zuverink; Gordon Zuverink; George Jr.; and, Vern Zuverink. They lived in Holland, MI at 266 Lincoln Ave (1927, 1936 city directories) and Zeeland, MI at 215 Colonial Ave (1938 city directory).

George Jr. married Loraine Hendricks in Zeeland, MI on 11-22-1946.

George, Jr. was assigned to the South Pacific with the United States Air Corps during WWII.

George, Jr. pitched in the major leagues from 1951-1959 for Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers and the Baltimore Orioles. He had 223 career strikeouts and an era of 3.73.

George passed away in 2014.


Bob Dykstra is a life-long Holland, MI resident, retired from Parke-Davis. Bob is a long-time supporter of the Holland Museum and Holland Historical Society.
