The Dutch Maid Candy Company appears in the 1927 city directory at 46 West 8th Street, Holland, MI. Edward Van Tatenhove (1902-1974) and Gerrit Van Dyke (1895-1967) were co-owners in the business. By 1929 Van Tatenhove was no longer affiliated with the company.In 1931 the Dutch Maid Candy Company was located at 80 East 8th Street in Holland, where it would remain into the 1960s. Brothers George Jacobs (1919-1997) and Robert Jacobs (1925-2006) briefly owned the business from about 1947 to 1950 (city directories) before turning it back over to Gerrit Van Dyke ca. 1952. Gerrit and his wife Cora continued to operate the business until about 1959 (city directories).

Jacob J. Jacobs was born on 5-4-1890 in Lake City, MI. to Jan J. Jacobs (1861-1926) and Hinderkien "Hattie" Groenewold (1864-1933). Jan and Hattie had the following children: Jacob (1890-1954); Bert (1894-1967); Lewis (1896-1980); Jennie (1899-1965); Arie (1901-1923); and, Bertha (1904-1935).
Nellie M. Dekker was born in Illinois on 7-14-1893 to Gerbrand Dekker (1857-1928) and Lena Caauwe (1864-1966). Gerbrand and Lena had the following children: Nellie (1893-1974); Marie (1902-1994); and, Edward (1907-1977).
On 4-4-1917 Jacob married Nellie in Holland, MI. The US Census from 1920 through 1950 shows that Jacob and Nellie lived in the Holland, MI area during this time. In 1921 they lived at 24 East 18th Street. In 1924 and 1929 they lived at 82 East 14th Street. By 1934 they were living at 205 East 9th Street.
Jacob and Nellie had the following children: Walter A. (1918-1995); George (1919-1997); Robert (1925-2006); and, Leon (1928-2015).
Jacob passed away in a hospital in East Grand Rapids on 2-17-1954. Nellie passed away in Holland, MI on 11-14-1974.
Wally married Dorothy Winks in Grandville, MI on 5-12-1939. George Jacobs married Annetta Havinga in Holland, MI on 6-10-1941. Robert Jacobs married Faye Piers in Holland, MI on 8-31-1947.
