Description
A photograph from the Robert A. Bocks collection. It shows some of the experiences he has while serving in Antarctica from 1957-59.
 
History
Robert Allen Bocks was born on September 11, 1928, and raised in Holland, Michigan. His parents are George and Hazel Bocks. The family lived on Lake Macatawa where Robert created many childhood memories. He would build many rafts on which he floated around Lake Macatawa, often with his dog. He was a graduate of the Holland High School class of 1947. Robert served in the US Navy for twenty years, including in the Korean War and Little America on Antarctica with the International Geophysical Support Group. He earned the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. As a civilian Robert worked at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island. Robert’s first wife, Josephine La Fauci, died from cancer after they were married 20 years in 1979. Together they had two sons, Gregory and Steven. Gregory Bocks died in 1996 from cancer. Robert married Donna Ball and was a stepfather to her children. He died on December 16, 2008.
