Description
Photograph of Margaret Van Vyven at the 2000 Tulip Time parade. She is standing with a former student of her's. Handwritten on the back of the photograph it states, "I had Gerrit in kindergarten at Lincoln School. Gerrit yikes, May Tulip Time 2000. Gerrit and wife have 6 children and many grandchildren". They are standing on E. 8th Street near Columbia Ave.
History
Margaret Van Vyven taught in the Holland Public Schools from 1931-1940 in grades kindergarten through fourth. She worked as music supervisor from 1941-1955 and as elementary coordinator from 1955 until her retirement in 1973. She was honored as parade marshal for two different Tulip Times, in 1979 and in 2000. Margaret was the daughter of John Van Vyven who was the original directory of the Holland American Legion Band. Her mother was Anna.
