Black and white photograph showing the 35th Michigan at Camp Meade, PA ca. 1898. Somewhere in the sea of soldiers is the rifle (2023.6.1a) given to Seymour Padnos.
History
This photograph, along with rifle 2023.6.1, were a gift to Seymour Padnos when his term as Commodore of the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club was completed. That was in 1970. The club somehow acquired it from a collection. They chose that particular rifle as a gift as they knew Seymour was a collector of Michigan and the Great Lakes history. It hung in his study for the past 50 years.
