Description
This image is of the Holland City News business which the  1910 directory lists at 32 W 8th Street. On the image is written, "Dad, John, Van Vyven, he was what was called "Printers Devil"". This was a young apprentice who performed a variety of tasks. There is an arrow pointing to the person on the left. 
History
Margaret Van Vyven taught in the Holland Public Schools from 1931-1940 in grades kindergarten through fourth. She worked as music supervisor from 1941-1955 and as elementary coordinator from 1955 until her retirement in 1973. She was honored as parade marshal for two different Tulip Times, in 1979 and in 2000. Margaret and Gertrude were the daughters of John Van Vyven who was the original directory of the Holland American Legion Band. there mother was Anna.

The Holland City News was established in 1872. It was located on the second floor of the building at 32 West 8th Street in Holland, MI (1897, 1924 and 1938 city directories).
Benjamin A. Mulder (1872-1947) served as manager for several decades (1908, 1938 city directories). By 1940 the Sentinel Printing Company had taken over ownership and publishing of the Holland City News. The Old News Printery moved into the space at 32 West 8th Street.
