Description
A column written by Randy Vande Water for the Holland Sentinel on September 15, 2013. On September 9, 1929 the ship Andaste left Grand Haven carrying limestone headed for Chicago. Although the weather started out ideal, storms quickly developed and the ship was lost at sea.

Randall P. "Randy" Vande Water was a local historian and newspaper editor. He spent 4 decades at the Holland Sentinel working as sports editor, city editor, editorial page editor, and managing editor.
