History
Jan Otten was born in 1847 in the Netherlands. He came to America in 1850 at age three, settling in the Holland MI area. On March 22nd, 1865 he enlisted in the 1st Michigan Cavalry Co. H, in which he served until July 19th, 1865. After the war, he lived in Singapore, MI which was famously buried by sand dunes. He was employed as the head sawyer at the Griffin and Henry Sawmill. He passed on March 4th, 1929 in Saugatuck, MI where he moved to later in life. He is interred in the Riverside Cemetery in Saugatuck, MI.
