On 11-3-1973 a group of 25 people met in the Herrick Library to discuss the formation of an area genealogical society. Ralph Haan was head of Herrick's Genealogical Department at the time. He presided over the meeting.It was determined that the first meeting of the Holland Genealogical Society would be held on 1-19-1974 in Herrick.
Charter members included Marian Dawson, Helen De Waard, Florence Dubbink, Frances Boerman, Frank Perkins, Ed Prins, Marie Zingle and Irene Reidsma, among others, from Holland, MI. From Zeeland, MI charter members included Myrtle Ten Haven, Florence Ten Have and Robert and Carol Goodenough.
The Holland Genealogical Society disbanded in 2023 due to dwindling membership.
