A newspaper article from the Holland Sentinel, December 15, 1953. In the article it states Ruth Athey was leaving the school system to take a position with the Michigan Children's Aid Society. 
History
Ruth Cornell Athey was born in 1922 to the Honorable Thurber and Pauline Cornell of Howell, Michigan. Ruth earned her teaching certificate from Michigan State University in 1943. In 1950 she and her husband, Bryan, moved to Holland. Ruth began teaching for Holland High School in 1952. Starting in 1967 she owned and operated Antiques Etc., which was located on the northeast corner of 16th St and Central Ave. Ruth was involved with Women’s Literary Club, the A.A.U.W. and volunteered with the Red Cross. Ruth and Bryan had two daughters, Phyllis Jean and LuAnn. Ruth died January 14, 2016.
