History
The Sligh-Lowry Furniture Company was in Holland, MI at 174 East 11th Street (1945 and 1966 Holland city directories).

In 1880 Charles R. Sligh founded Sligh Furniture Company. Sligh Furniture was the first plant to offer coordinated styles and finishes of the furniture for the bedroom. The depression years were difficult for most companies and Sligh was no exception. In 1933 Chuck Sligh Jr and his partner Bill Lowry were struggling to produce, ship and get paid for the bedroom suites they were producing. Bill came up with the idea of offering desks so the company could ship this one item more quickly. This breakthrough idea helped the company be profitable for the rest of the depression. In 1968 Robert Sligh became president and Sligh Furniture acquired Trend Clock company. In the 1980s the Trend name was dropped and became Sligh.

During the 1980s Sligh expanded its business furniture line with innovative solutions for hiding the many cords needed for the day’s electronic equipment. In the 2000s new digital television technologies ignited growth.

Sligh Furniture sold its clock business to the Bulova Watch Company in 2005, which closed the Holland plant. They continued producing home office and entertainment furniture overseas until they were purchased by Lexington Home Brands in 2011.
