Description
A 4-page article written by Randy Vande Water about the beginning of the Holland Public School system in 1848. On June 7, 1873 the first class composed of five women graduated. Those five women were: Alida Binnekant, Kate E. Garrod, Johanna Koning, Kate G. Ledeboer, and Nellie Wakker. One page is included about the 1948 graduation.

Randall P. "Randy" Vande Water was a local historian and newspaper editor. He spent 4 decades at the Holland Sentinel working as sports editor, city editor, editorial page editor, and managing editor.
