History
Nellie Essenburg Postma was born on March 31, 1876. Her parents are Jacob and Lena Essenburg. Nellie died on December 19, 1963. Abel Postma was born August 25, 1870, in Singapore, Michigan near Saugatuck to Jantje & Annie Abels Postma. Nellie and Abel were married on October 17, 1894, and lived at 47 W 17th Street. Their children are Andrew (Anne), Jacob, Marian (Marion), Leona. Abel was a well-known contractor in Holland. In his obituary it stated he built or remodeled 85-90% of the 8th Street business district in Holland. The buildings listed the constructed were; Holland Motor Express, Dutch Tea Rusk Co., DeVries and Dornbos store, Montgomery Ward & Co., The Sentinel building, A. Patsy Fabiano, Beechwood school, Boter & Co, and the Walter C. Walsh building. Abel was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1935 and served until his death on June 23, 1943. He was also a 5th Ward Alderman from 1927-1931. Both Nellie and Abel are buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. ;
