West Ottawa High School yearbook, titled "Icon", 1961. This first West Ottawa yearbook was dedicated to Fred Bocks for his 38 years of dediction to the West Ottawa School district.Some of the faculty included in the yearbook include Helen Bitner (home economics), William Bloemendaal (english, spanish), Norman Boeve (math), Sally Rucker (vocal music), Gener Rucker (speech, debate), and Fred Meppelink (math).
History
This yearbook belonged to William Bloemendaal. He was born in 1932 in Zeeland, MI to Dr. Dirk and Lillian Bloemendaal.Bill taught at West Ottawa Schools for 39 years. While teaching at West Ottawa High School Bill started the Icon, the school's annual yearbook, and the West Ottawan (the school newspaper).
Bill died on 5-30-2012 in Holland, MI.
