Description
One pair of wooden shoes, tan, with painting of a Dutch boy on the toe of the right shoe and Dutch girl on the toe of the left. On the outside of the right shoe, the words "To A Good Mayor From Santa Claus" appear. On the outside of the left, "Burgemeester Harry Harrington" appears.
History
Harry Harrington was born 5-28-1890 in Holland, MI to Capt. Austin Harrington (1863-1939) and Lucia Garvelink (1862-1951). He married Clara A. Phillips (1885-1949) on 8-24-1910 in Bangor, Ottawa Co., MI. They lived in Holland at 237 Van Raalte Ave.
Harry and Clara had one child, Phillip Harrington (1920-2009). Phillip was a photographer for Look magazine.
Harry worked for the Harrington Coal Company and, later, served as Holland, MI mayor from 1949-1955. He passed away on August 9, 1957 in Holland, MI and was buried in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
