Getz farm postcard showing the flowers and walkway.
History
The Getz (Lakewood) Farm began in 1910 when George Getz moved to Holland looking for a place to raise his family. He set up such things as greenhouses, gardens, barns, and houses and publically opened his 257 acre estate at the end of Lakewood Blvd. Animals residing at the farm included everything from exotic camels to enormous pythons. Weekends at the farm could include 10,000 to 20,000 visitors. In 1933, the animals were sold to the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago and the farm was subdivided in 1938 when Getz died.
