Description
US penny. One side shows a Native American with the words "United States of America 1863" written on the circumference of the coin. The other side has the words "one Cent" written on it.
History
This coin was donated by Gerrit John Rutgers. He was born on May 12th, 1870 in Holland, Michigan. He was a farmer from his birth to his death. He remained an active part of the Holland, Michigan community well after he retired from farming. He passed away on July 20th, 1942. He is currently buried in Graafschap Cemetery in Michigan.
