During his life he served as minister in Overisel, MI (1848-53); Grand Haven, MI (1853-55); Milwaukee, WI (1855-1861); Chicago, IL (1861-62); High & Low Prairie, IL (1862-65); Zeeland, MI (1865-71); and, Orange City, IA (1871-78). He died in Orange City, IA June 16, 1894.His wife was Geertje Brouwer Bolks (1814-1888).
