Geert Mantingh (Manting), M.D. (1813-1891) was a pioneer physician. His red brick home that replaced his log cabin was built in 1868 on the corner of Washington & 40th (now 147th). The newspaper states that during the 1871 fire sparks fell on the roof, but slid off without igniting the fire.
He was born in the Drenthe Province, The Netherlands, and came to the U.S. in late 1847 or early 1848. He married Maiske Westing (1835-1911) on Feb. 22, 1851.;
